About "Earth: The World of Insects" Exhibit

FDU Library Exhibit: April 1 – 30, 2023

Wriggling, Wiggling World
Q&As of How to Survive on Planet Earth
Caterpillars . . .  Becoming Butterflies & Moths . . .  or Disappearing?

“The planet’s real diversity lies mostly beneath our regard…. In keeping with their variety, insects play a vital role in virtually every terrestrial ecosystem.  Roughly three-quarters of the world’s flowering plants depend on insects for pollination…. also crucial seed dispersers; many plants stud their seeds with tiny treats to entice ants to carry them off…. Collectively, insects transfer more energy from plants to animals than any other group.  They are the solder that holds food chains together.”*

The FDU Library’s exhibit for April 2023 and this year’s Earth Day was inspired by the material quoted above from the article: “A Little-Known Planet: An entomologist races to find caterpillars before they disappear” by Elizabeth Kolbert. The New Yorker, March 20, 2023, pp. 40-47.
