Through the month of February (Black History Month), the Florham Library will display information materials that demonstrate the continuing impact and legacy of the Black Power Movement in the United States. Emerging during the 1960s in response to perceived failures of the more mainstream Civil Rights Movement, the Black Power Movement--and its foundational leaders including Malcolm X, Stokely Carmichael, and the Black Panther Party--explicitly advocated for the rejection of white supremacy in American society and for the establishment and authority of businesses, services, and societies run by and for Black people. The Florham Library's book display recognizes the significant and timeless contributions made by leaders of this movement (as well as the broader Civil Rights Movement) in the fields of art, literature, politics, and more.
