When Damar Hamlin, safety for the Buffalo Bills, collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest on January 2, 2023, the world of journalism was awash with ethical questions about the violence inherent in contact sports, particularly football, and the lifelong, and sometimes life-shortening health implications for athletes.
