The Declaration of Independence on July 4th of 1776 freed the American colonies from British rule; however, today—almost 250 years later-- it continues to be a struggle each day for many groups of Americans to maintain or obtain personal freedoms as citizens of this nation. What does freedom mean to you? Whether it is your freedom to vote or your freedom to marry whom you choose; what are the freedoms that you celebrate and what are the freedoms that this country continues to strive for? In these exhibits you will find books on different viewpoints of American history reflective of the continual struggles of the individual groups within.
