ARTH 1062: Latino Cultural Arts

The Encounter

The sources on this page (and beyond) are for the group presentations on The Encounter.

Include research on: 

  • The explorers/conquistadors 
  • Year of the encounter 
  • Resources available (why would the explorers/conquistadors) choose to take over the indigenous people's land. What did they have available to them? What is gold? Location?)
  • Culture of the civilization in the “New World,” including customs, languages spoken, religion, etc.  
  • Nature of the encounter (Was there conflict?) 
  • Result of the conflict 
  • Remnants of indigenous civilization that still exists today.
  • 15-20 slides 
  • MLA formatted (please include in-text citations on the slides and under any images) and a Works Cited slide 

Background Information

Credo Reference is a searchable collection on online encyclopedia articles that is very easy to use. Search the last name of the explorer or conquistador you are presenting on.
