IMDb is an authoritative online database of “all things film” comprising TV, celebrity, cast and crew information, video and streaming content online, plus plot summaries, ratings and critical reviews.

The database represents the first comprehensive survey of the survival of American silent feature films. It contains information on the nearly 11,000 U.S. feature films released between 1912-1929, and holdings information on about 3,300 of those titles for which elements are known to exist. Those early motion pictures with their recognizable stars and high production values spread American culture around the world. After the arrival of sound, however, silent feature films soon disappeared and many vanished altogether.

The DEFA Film Library at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, founded by Professor Barton Byg in 1993, is the only archive and research center outside of Germany devoted to a broad spectrum of filmmaking from and related to the former GDR. It houses an extensive collection of 35- and 16mm prints, DVDs, books, periodicals and articles. Students are involved in all aspects of the Library’s research, outreach and teaching activities and also gain valuable experience in subtitling and library, conference and arts management.

NARA has an extensive collection of films created for and produced by the U.S. government that are in the public domain, including military films, educational and documentary films (1915-1976). NARA also has gift materials from private sources, such as Universal Newsreel releases and outtakes (1929-67).

Founded in 1946, the Council is New York’s oldest continuously operating non-profit serving the independent film, video, and electronic arts community.
