Committee Charge

The Faculty Library Advisory Committee (FLAC) advocates and promotes the mission of the library and the research work of faculty and students.  This committee makes recommendations to the University Librarian on matters concerning library policies, resources and services to faculty and the students including but not limited to assessment, collection development, outreach, and support for library inclusion in program development as well as librarian-led information literacy instruction in curriculum and curriculum development.

Duties:

  • Communicate: The FLAC serves to communicate between the faculty body and the library administration to ensure that research and information needs are being met. Facilitates communication with and obtaining feedback from the university community regarding library collections, programs, and services.
  • Advocate: The FLAC advocates on behalf of the library to the faculty and university administration on matters pertaining to the advancement and attainment of library goals and objectives particularly as they relate to the role of the university library in teaching, research, and student support.  Considers broad national issues and professional best practices for the advancement of FDU Library.
  • Advise: The FLAC advises and makes recommendations on the library policies, resources, space, assessment, new initiatives, and matters pertaining to the retention and academic success of students.

Members:

The FLAC is composed of faculty members representing all the schools of the University, the University Librarian, and librarians.  Academic department heads and other guests may be invited to attend depending on specific agenda items.  All faculty appointments are for two years and may be renewed for another term if no other faculty in that school is available to serve.  The FLAC is co-chaired by the University Librarian and an elected faculty member from the membership.

Meetings:

The FLAC meets 3-4 times per year, or as needed.  The meetings are scheduled during open class periods and available via videoconferencing to ensure that there is consistency of attendance. The agenda is set by the co-chairs; minutes are distributed and kept on file in the FLAC section of the library homepage.
