New York Times Online Database Guide: Creating an Account

This guide will walk you through the process for creating your New York Times Online account and show you how to use the added features.

Creating an Account

The library's subscription to the New York Times grants you access to the NYT for a limited time. At the end of time period you will need to renew your subscription to continue your access.

Signing Up:

The New York Times requires you to create an account to access their content. To create an account:

  • Visit: http://www.nytimes.com/passes and click on the "Create Account" button.
  • Enter your FDU email address as the email address.
  • Create a password for your NYT account.  For security purposes do not to use your FDU email password.
  • Select your status (student,faculty/staff) and graduation year if applicable.
  • Click "Sign up"

You will receive a verification email from the New York Times. Please follow the instructions in the email to complete your registration.

Renewing:

After signing up for an initial NYT subscription you should receive an email in a year letting you know your subscriptions is about to expire and you need to renew for continued access. If you did not get this email or did not renew before your 12 months is up, it is easy to extend your subscription.

  • Visit: http://www.nytimes.com/passes and click on the "Already have an account? Log in here »" link.
  • Use your NYT username and password to log in. 
  • Select your status (student,faculty/staff) and graduation year if applicable.
  • Click "Sign up"

This will renew your subscription for another year. You should receive an email at your FDU email address to verify your account. Make sure to follow the instructions in this email.
