African American Literature

African Americans literature encompasses all literary works by individuals of African American descent dating all the way back to the 18th century.  This genre explores many issues that African Americans have dealt with in their lives including racism, social inequality, slavery and the fight for freedom.  This guide is intended to serve as an introduction to the resources  contained in the library’s collection of African American literature.
