| Conference Speakers: Alfred Bergbauer: Alfred Bergbauer is Senior Vice President and Multinational Practice Leader for Marsh – North East Region. He also heads the Philadelphia Property & Multinational Department. He has been in the insurance industry for 19 years. Prior to joining Marsh, Mr. Bergbauer was Senior Vice President of ACE International AdvantageŽ, ACE USA’s International middle market underwriting operation. Mr. Bergbauer’s career in international insurance and business includes serving as chief executive officer of two insurance companies in the People’s Republic of China and the Philippines. Both were successful performance turn-around assignments. From 1996 to 1999, Mr. Bergbauer headed the China market entry team for Liberty Mutual and was responsible for establishing a China focused investment bank, insurance company, occupational safety and health institute, and consulting practice. Mr. Bergbauer graduated from Marietta College with a BA in Journalism, and received his MBA from F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business, Babson College. Gary Breauninger: Gary Breauninger was appointed Global Crossing's chief marketing officer in April 2007. He oversees Global Crossing's marketing and communications organization globally, including development, positioning and management of products and services, pricing, strategic marketing, market development and communications. In addition to his marketing responsibilities, Mr. Breauninger co-manages the Global Crossing Operational Performance (GCOP) unit, overseeing all functional reviews, planning and performance metrics globally to facilitate concise and efficient decision making within the company. Previously, Mr. Breauninger was senior vice president for planning and business finance, in which capacity he oversaw Global Crossing's financial operations. His responsibilities included financial reporting, business planning initiatives and cash management strategies. He also served as the company's financial controller and led credit and collections activities, real estate management and the procurement organization. Mr. Breauninger's track record of success includes being part of the leadership team that developed Global Crossing's restructuring plan. He was also instrumental in recent bond offerings that raised $400 million for GCUK, as well as $384 million in convertible notes and common stock offerings for the parent company. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Breauninger held a variety of positions in the telecommunications sector. He held several roles at AT&T, including sales, sales operations, customer care and finance. He most recently served as AT&T's senior financial director for business services. He joined Global Crossing as a leader of its global product management, product realization and business development units, taking charge of planning, costing and long-term product planning. Mr. Breauninger holds a B.S. in industrial management and graphic communication management with a concentration in finance and operations management from Carnegie Mellon University. Paul B. Dyck: Paul B. Dyck was appointed to serve as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe at the U.S. Department of Commerce by the George W. Bush Administration in June 2006. Mr. Dyck is responsible for directing the Department’s efforts to open markets and ensure fair treatment for American exporters in 50 countries, including all of Europe, Russia, and Eurasia. He is also responsible for developing strategies and programs to enhance the United States’ commercial position in the region and engaging with foreign government officials to resolve commercial disputes. Before joining the Department of Commerce, Mr. Dyck served at the U.S. Department of State as senior advisor to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. In this position, Mr. Dyck helped coordinate the Secretary’s strategic planning efforts and transformational diplomacy agenda. From 2001 to 2005, Mr. Dyck served in the White House Office of Political Affairs under President Bush. As Associate White House Political Director, he was responsible for managing the President’s domestic political and policy priorities for the southern states. Prior to moving to Washington, D.C., Mr. Dyck worked on then-Governor Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign in Austin, Texas. From 1998 to 2000, he worked for the Texas Workforce Commission, focusing on federal budgetary and legislative issues relating to state workforce development. From 1996 to 1998, Mr. Dyck served in several capacities for the Texas House of Representatives, including legislative director for State Representative Jim Keffer. Mr. Dyck received a master’s degree from the University of London and a bachelor’s degree from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Maria Kocylowsky: Maria L. Kocylowsky is the head of the Business Research/New Jersey Documents Library at Fairleigh Dickinson University. She has been with FDU for over 19 years. Her previous professional experiences included positions in the publishing, banking and pharmaceutical industries. She holds an M.A. in History and an M.L.S. in library science both from Rutgers University. Neil Lenok: Neil has been involved in international business for over 25 years. He graduated from Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY with an AAS degree in Liberal Arts and attended Baruch College in New York City; working towards a degree in marketing. Prior to starting his own export management firm in 1990, Neil spent 10 years involved in importing from the Far East. He had an array of responsibilities from managing a sales force generating $20 million in annual sales, to heading up design and production. He was also responsible for logistics and domestic distribution management. Neil travels extensively in key global markets in Europe, Asia, and Latin America; developing marketing strategies, identifying distributors and prospects for his important clientele. Neil is an accomplished seminar instructor on Import/Export Trade. He has lectured with numerous global associations and organizations, inclusive of The World Academy, American Management Association Pan Asia Council, the American Pet Products Manufacturer’s Association, Federal District Export Council and The Transportation Intermediaries Association. Neil is an active partner in American River International, which is a premiere international consulting and Logistics Company based in New York. He also owns an export trading & management company called Axis World Link. Hilary Love: Ms. Love, Managing Director in PNC’s Foreign Exchange group, specializes in providing advisory and execution services in foreign currency exposure management. She has worked extensively with a range of risk management instruments. Prior to joining PNC, Ms. Love was with the Capital Markets Group at CoreStates (now Wachovia Bank). Prior to that, she was with Bankers Trust, New York (now Deutsche Bank) in their Capital Markets area, trading and marketing fixed income securities. Hilary has a BA in International Economics from The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, and an MBA from The Wharton School, The University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. Carmela Mammas: Carmela Mammas is the Acting Director of the New York U.S. Export Assistance Center and Director of the Newark U.S. Export Assistance Center. She joined the Commercial Service in 1992 and has been working with U.S. exporters for the past 16 years by providing specialized export and trade counseling. Carmela Mammas is the recipient of the Director General's Innovation Award as a result of her accomplishments during her 3-year term as the National Team Leader for the U.S. Department’s Information & Communications Technology Team. Ms. Mammas was recognized for her leadership, innovation, and excellence in creating or leveraging new partnerships, developing and implementing new services or delivery methods leading to substantial progress toward achievement of the Department’s Strategic Plan objectives. Prior to joining the U.S. Department of Commerce, Ms. Mammas has experience in the New York fashion industry and retail management. Carmela Mammas received her Bachelor of Science in International Trade & Marketing from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She then completed an MBA program at Rutgers University and an advanced leadership program at the Harvard Business School. Prior to his appointment, Dr. Moore served as dean of the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business at Salisbury University. His academic areas of specialty include collective bargaining, conflict resolution and organizational behavior. In addition, he has more than a decade of private industry experience. Before Salisbury, he was dean at Valparaiso University (Indiana) after spending a long career at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Moore taught for one year at Yang-En University in the People's Republic of China, and before that was invited to study dispute resolution in China. Dr. Moore has done research in several countries, including the People's Republic of China, Canada, Czech Republic, Poland, and Russia. He has numerous published articles and made many presentations at U. S. and international conferences and seminars. Dr. Moore has been involved in variety of community, entrepreneurial, and workforce development initiatives. He received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University and is a member of the Academy of Management; Labor and Employment Relations Association; BB&T Bank, Eastern Shore Board of Directors; Peninsula Regional Medical Center Health Council; AACSB International's Pre-Accreditation, and past member AACSB’s Blue Ribbon Committee on Accreditation Quality. Sven Oehme: Sven C. Oehme is President and CEO of the European-American Business Organization, Inc., an international business consulting firm engaged in European-American trade and investment issues. He is also President and CEO of the American Business Forum on Europe, Inc. Until the end of 1998 he served as managing director of the European-American Chamber of Commerce in the Unites States, Inc. (EACC) and also as Vice President of the German American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. with special responsibilities for the chamber’s legal department. Before joining the EACC in 1991, Mr. Oehme worked in executive positions for subsidiaries of Gruner and Jahr, the magazine and newspaper publishing division of the German media company Bertelsmann. He studied law and economics at the University of Hamburg, Germany and is admitted to the bar in Hamburg. Mr. Oehme holds a Master of Laws degree in international business and trade law with a focus on European law from Fordham University, Graduate School of Law, the Jesuit University of New York. Mr. Oehme is a frequent speaker at trade and professional groups as well as universities and colleges where he addresses developments in the European Union and EU – U.S. commercial and trade relations. Specifically his areas of expertise include European Economic and Monetary Union and enlargement of the EU. He has also appeared on Bloomberg TV. Mr. Oehme is founder and president of the American Business Forum on Europe, Inc. He produces and anchors a weekly news show on public access television in Westchester County and is the immediate past president of the Board of Directors of Larchmont Mamaroneck Community Television. Mr. Oehme is president of the German American Law Association, a director of the American Foreign Law Association, a member of the Advisory Committee of the European Union Studies Center of the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York and a member of the Board of Advisors of the Weissman Center for International Business at Baruch College. He is a Fellow at the Foreign Policy Association. In June of 2005 he was appointed honorary Hamburg-Ambassador representing the almost 2-million people major port city in Northern Europe in the U.S. As of 2006 he joined the Board of Trustees of The International Forum for Culture and Business, Dresden, Germany. James Rosener: James D. Rosener is a partner in the Commercial Department of Pepper Hamilton LLP. He heads the firm's International Practice Group and is a past member of the firm’s Executive Committee. His practice is devoted primarily to international transactions, mergers and acquisitions, licensing and acquisition of intellectual property, and corporate financing. Mr. Rosener has represented private equity funds in numerous transactions, U.S.-based companies in transactions throughout the European Community, Latin America, and in Switzerland and Asia, as well as several European, South American and Japanese companies in merger and acquisitions and licensing transactions with U.S. companies. In particular, he regularly represents companies based in the United States and throughout the world in various matters, including financial, acquisition and general corporate issues. He has also represented many management- led groups in the acquisition of businesses from divesting corporations. Within the corporate financing practice area, Mr. Rosener has represented a number of issuers, domestic and foreign, in public offerings (initial and subsequent), venture and mezzanine capital raising, and traditional bank financing transactions. In addition, he has represented numerous entities in debt restructuring, recapitalization and work-out plans. Mr. Rosener serves as general counsel to a number of U.S. and foreign companies in a range of industries. As counsel, he serves corporations’ day-to-day needs for legal advice in areas such as contract review, public reporting requirements and on-going commercial issues. Mr. Rosener is a member or has served as a member of several corporate and charitable boards of directors, including NCO Portfolio, Inc., Liberty Technologies, Inc., Liberty M.P. S.A.S. (a French-based joint venture company), Bonney Forge Corporation, Cedar Investments, Inc., CFM Partners, Inc., SePro Healthcare, Inc. and SePro (Delaware) Inc. He is the president and a member of the board of directors of the National Association of Corporation Directors, Philadelphia Chapter. He also is a director of the Paris and Philadelphia chapters of the Chambre de Commerce Franco-Americain and the Institute of French Culture at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Rosener’s charitable involvement includes the Metropolitan Mission Board of Philadelphia Presbytery, Head Start, Inc., the United States Tennis Association, Tennis Partners Foundation and Pennsylvania Innovation Network. Mr. Rosener holds B.S., M.B.A. and J.D. degrees. He is a member of the bars of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York and is admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the District of New Jersey and to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He lectures frequently on business topics and issues. Peter Schwaiger: After finalising his studies in law and economics at the University of Munich/Germany and Dijon/France Peter Schwaiger joined the Ministry of Economy and Transport of Bavaria in 1983. Then in 1985 he became the Director of the Legal department of the German Chamber of Commerce in Madrid. In 1988 he took up post as Head of Unit in the Representation of Bavaria to the European Community in Brussels, where he was responsible for the areas of the Ministries of Economy, Transport and Finance. He was appointed Head of Cabinet of the Secretary General of the Committee of the Regions in 1994. In 1999 Peter Schwaiger started his career within the European Commission. He was appointed Member of Cabinet of Vice President Loyola de Palacio. Here Peter Schwaiger mainly followed the horizontal policy areas within energy and transport. In 2003 he took up post as Head of Unit responsible for Oil and Coal Policy in DG TREN. His main responsibilities were the legislation relating to the coal and oil sector and survey and analysis of market developments and security of energy supply. In 2004 he returned to Vice President de Palacio as Deputy Head of Cabinet, with responsibilities consisting of relations with the European Parliament and development of an external energy policy. In November 2004, when the Barroso Commission took office, he was appointed Deputy Head of Cabinet of Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Commissioner responsible for External Relations and Neighbourhood Policy. He was in charge mainly of the coordination of the European Neighbourhood Policy, Latin America and relations with the European Parliament. As of 1 September 2007 Peter Schwaiger is the Deputy Head of Delegation of the European Commission to the United Nations in New York. Peter Schwaiger is married, with two children. Alenka Suhadolnik: Ms. Suhadolnik holds a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the University of Ljubljana, and a Master's Degree in Economics from the University of Zagreb. She joined the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990, serving in Multilateral and Analytical Department before going on study leave to the Diplomatic Academy, Vienna (1992). Afterwards she served in the Office of the Minister responsible for parliamentary affairs. Between 1996 and 2000 she was posted to the Embassy of Slovenia in London (political affairs, press, and culture). Thereafter she served in the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and later as a Head of Department for International Cultural Relations at the Slovenian MFA (between 2002 and 2004). At present, she is Consul General of the Republic of Slovenia in New York. Ethné Swartz: Ethné Swartz, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies and Chair of the Marketing and Entrepreneurial Studies Department. She holds a Ph.D. in Management from The Manchester School of Management, University of Manchester Science and Technology Institute, Manchester, England. Her research and teaching interests include entrepreneurship and innovation, management of technology, business continuity and crisis management. Dr. Swartz has taught strategy and entrepreneurship in the UK and South Africa. Prior to her academic career Dr. Swartz worked for General Motors (South Africa) and as Human Resources Manager at Kodak (South Africa). Dr. Swartz is the founder of the Female Entrepreneurs’ Alliance and is on the editorial boards of Garden State Woman, and Risk Management: An International Journal, and serves as a reviewer for Entrepreneurship, Theory and Practice. Currently Dr. Swartz serves as the Vice President of the Minority and Women’s Division of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. She is the co-author of two books in the management field. Joan Verplanck: Joan Verplanck is president of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, a 97-year-old Trenton-based business advocacy organization. Since her election in 1995 as the chamber's first female president, Joan has represented the business community on a wide range of critical issues, most notably those involving the port and education. She was a founding member of Nation'sPort in 1996, and continues to serve on its Executive Committee. Joan was instrumental creating the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce Foundation, which was established to build a highly qualified workforce through innovative collaborations with K-12 education and the workforce training and preparation system. An officer of the foundation, she provides guidance and resources that enable programs that motivate students to be better prepared for college and life (LearnDoEarn.org) and that improve employment opportunities for qualified individuals with disabilities. Several programs of the Foundation had won national acclaim and are being used or replicated by organizations around the country. Joan ranked No. 58 on the 2007 PoliticsNJ Power List, which lists the state's 100 most influential. She was named one of the state's ten most powerful women in business by the Star-Ledger in 2006 and 2002. In 2004, she was named by New Jersey Monthly magazine as one of five "business power players." She is the recipient of numerous honors, including the Lewis R. Applegate Outstanding Business Leader Award by the New Jersey Society for Environmental, Economic Development (NJ SEED), the Barbara Boggs Sigmund Award for Women of Vision (WPC), and the Virginia Apgar Award (March of Dimes). Joan was appointed by Acting Governor Richard Codey to the New Jersey Employment Security Council. She serves on the executive committee of the U.S. Chamber Foundation and Nation'sPort. She served on the Economic Development Authority Board and the Board of Elizabethtown Water Company until its sale to Thames Water UK in 2000. She has served on the board of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and was the first woman to chair the National Board of Trustees of the Institutes for Organization Management, a continuing education program of the U.S. Chamber. Prior to accepting her position with the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, Joan spent eight years as the first female president of the Morris County Chamber of Commerce and ten years managing chambers of commerce in Rhode Island. Aidan Walsh: Aidan Walsh has been with KPMG LLP for over 25 years, and serves as the firm's Partner in Charge, International. In his current position, Mr. Walsh coordinates the firm's international activities, holds oversight roles on various KPMG Regional Boards in Asia and the Middle East, and is responsible for the firm’s Mobility Program. He also assists KPMG clients in developing their international business strategies. Prior to joining KPMG, Mr. Walsh was the United States' Bureau Chief of the Industrial Development Authority-Ireland in Los Angeles and New York. The I.D.A. is the inbound investment agency of the Republic of Ireland. Throughout his career, Mr. Walsh has been an active member of the international business network and has held senior management positions in industry in the United Kingdom, Finland, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, and Germany. A frequent speaker and a recognized international trade adviser, Mr. Walsh is regularly quoted in the national and international press. He is also a frequent guest on business television and media shows discussing international business and economic news. Additionally, Mr. Walsh served as the Chairman of the British-American Chamber of Commerce. In November 1995, he was invested with the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, for his services to British Trade and Commercial Interests in the United States. Currently, he is President, and Deputy Chairman of British American Business, Inc. He is a trustee of the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise at the University of North Carolina, and a Board Member of Cooperation Ireland, a charity dedicated to promoting better relations between the people of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Other organizations in which he is involved include the American Ireland Fund, Business Council for International Understanding, the National Foreign Trade Council, the United Nations Association, The Asia Society and The Japan Society. Mr. Walsh received his B.B.S. degree in business, with honors from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Michel Wouters: Michel J. Wouters is President of Prestige Shipping Co., Inc., in Ramsey NJ. Prior to founding Prestige Shipping Co., Inc. in 1991, Michel spent 32 years in business including 8 ˝ years as Vice President of Richard Boas & Co (USA), an international freight forwarder grew the business successfully and specialized in international logistics on the export as well import side. His senior management responsibilities also include a position at Peter Jantzen International, Des Plaines IL as well as Gondrand Transport, New York where his diverse experiences encompassed all aspects of customer relation, operations and accounting. Michel has extensive experience in all areas of management, as well as marketing and promotion, sales, financial operations, real estate and office site location. In his own company, he researched site locations and worked with various vendors so that the best service could be offered to the clientele. He implemented successful marketing programs in all aspects of international transportation and implemented the computerization of all facets of his company’s documentation department and fiscal systems. He is responsible for all fiscal aspects of the business, including working with banks and market creditors, as well as for the training of both operations and financial staff. Michel has also worked directly as a consultant to principals in the international transportation arena. He has worked with organizations, both public and private on process improvement and international logistical problems. Michel has studied International Business in Antwerp, Belgium and is proficient in English, French, Dutch and German. Michel has given various presentations to organizations and professional associations on topics of international logistics cross cultural differences, export documentation and procedures. He has been an adjunct faculty of the County College of Morris and has been in the same position at Raritan Valley College. Michel is on the board of the Belgian American Chamber of Commerce/New York; the Board of Advisors for International Studies, Ramapo College, Mahwah NJ; Chairperson of the Global Business Committee at the Morris Chamber; and Chairman of the New Jersey District Export Counsel. Ian Wright: Ian L. Wright is the Senior Vice President, Trade and Supply Chain for HSBC Bank USA N.A. A British citizen, Ian was born on the Island of Penang, in Malaysia and educated in Hong Kong and England. He joined a British Overseas Bank in London as an International Officer, and was first posted overseas in 1974. Ian has lived and worked in, the Middle East, (in Bahrain, and the U.A.E.) the Orient, (in Japan, Indonesia and Hong Kong) and Europe, (in the Netherlands and the UK). Ian came to the USA in 1983, and worked as a commercial lender, and Trade Finance Specialist, in Los Angeles, San Jose and San Francisco before moving to New York in 1993, where he now manages HSBC's USA trade operations. |
